Friends/Guildies > AI > random people. The last time I seriously pugged was August 2005. I pugged a mission in September just because I thought to myself: 'surely people don't fail that bad'... They do fail that hard.

I have bought 3 heroes though(Acolyte Jin, Kos, Dunkoro ) but don't know how to use them. Do I need to be in Nightfall areas to be able to invite them to my party? Can't use for Ascalon quests?
|
You don't buy heroes. I'm guessing you unlocked them with balthazar faction? On the screen where at the top in red writing it says these things will not be received by your character, only available to your PvP characters? To get those heroes for your Prophecies PvE character, you would have gone to Lion's Arch (way past Ascalon) and get to Elona, where you would have spoken to Kormir and the heroes themselves.
Unlocking them makes no difference to you. It would have been better to unlock skills so you can buy them from the trainer in Ascalon City.
Once you have heroes, you can use them anywhere you want (few exceptions, but you won't find them anytime soon). If you had a bunch of lvl 20 heroes you could take them with you and roll through ascalon.

Are there pvp arenas for 1-10 level players other than Ascolan Arena, like capture the flag or sth?
EDIT: There seem to be Shiverpeak Arena, Shing Jea Arena and Sunspear Arena but difficult for me to travel there.
|
Shing Jea and Sunspear are for lvl 1-10 like Ascalon, but they're meant to be for people that are native to that continent, because the time you reach them you'll be much higher than that. Shiverpeak is lvl 1-15.

So true.

My human mate did. I told him "I think there is a bonus mission somewhere?" and he said "Just kill all Charr on sight and we will be good" Well, we were wiped. Second time we did bonus mission but again human player didn't allow me to check what the other terbuchet is there for. He died, I rezzed him, I died and he said "I didn't do that quest for resurrection signet" X(
I went with 3 henchmen and the whole mission was a total breeze. Understandably since these are the first missions and we beginner players are getting used to everything. Some players are bent on making it difficult though.
I need to do third mission now and won't go with human players until I make some friends in guild/arena matches. And you are right about heroes, it says "Unlocked" and can be used by PvP characters only. I didn't pay any faction points, maybe some bonus thing for my GW edition. I will wait till I get to Lion's Arch to get heroes in PVE.

XDDDDDDDDDD dude, thats the build I used until The Maguuma on my first char!
nonetheless, If you still want a build,
[Sever Artery][Gash][Bonetti's Defense][For Great Justice][Healing Breeze][Vigorous Spirit][Live Vicariously][Balthazar's Spirit]
Try to get a zealous mod for your sword if you can. That build took me past Hell's Precipice, and while it is a whammo, it works surprisingly well.

Never use healsig in battle. Rely on monks to keep you alive, cancel frenzy when you're under attack, or never use it.

It's been said before and I'll say it again.
Beating PvE indicates nothing about your build, which is why you're under the illusion that it's good.

I got level 13 couple of days ago and am going to do quests at Yak's Bend now. I have since learned some new skills and am currently using the following build:
[build=OQMTENaWn4q+FwBGlCNAxEA]
I used Healing Signet a lot in random arenas but I am thinking of dropping it now since nobody seems to play RA at shiverspeak and in PvE I feel safer with [Sprint] for times when I mess up and the healer henchmen dies and I have to escape. I used to use Resurrection Signet in RA in place of Resurrect skill. (Do henchmen also get death penalty upon dying?)
When do I get to do quests to get elite skills - at level 20 only or can get some even before that? Do I keep anything in mind while leveling to 20? I read on wiki about armor for warrior and planning to get this:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Warrior_Gladiator_armor
71 AR is for 1250g and 64 Iron Ingots(180g per 10 ingots I think). 80AR might be too costly for me. I currently have Charr Hide armour with 50 armour rating on each piece. (Level 20 PvP character has 70 armour on each piece.)
My sword is Barbed Ascalon Razor of Charr Slaying. Serrated Shield with +30 health. I don't know what crafting materials to store and what to sell away so I am salvaging the drops and keeping ALL the material for now.
Any help regarding when quests for elite skills start, what collectible items to keep to get armor at level 20 and any good sword/shield drop/collectible to keep in mind is most welcome

You might want to start trying to find all the iron and scales or tanned hide squares that you can for max armor (80 for a warrior.) For a complete set of either it would come up to 5k (5,000g) and you'll be able to acquire this armor at Droknar's Forge much later in the game.
As for elite skills, there are no quests for them. But you can begin capturing them roughly around the time you get to the the Crystal Desert and start doing the missions there. Although the skills for a warrior there are pretty poor in my opinion.

Henchmen do get Death Penalty.
If 80AL is too expensive, you might want to try getting Collector armor in the desert. It comes uninscribed but costs nothing except random drops. See wiki for more info.
If I'm not mistaken, you can get the quest for elite skills from a man in Lion's Arch. His name is Magistrate _________ I think.
It never hurts to save materials, you'll use them eventually and if you really need cash you can always sell them then. I try to keep a full stack of most common materials at all times for new characters.
Your sword shouldn't matter much as long as it has maximum damage, you can pick one up off a collector or player for as little as 500g if you ask around. Any 16AL req 9ish Strength Shield will go a long ways.
Right now you shouldn't be focused on optimization. However, if you want a head start, find an elemental, vampiric, and zealous sword. All of them should be 15^50 with +30 Health or +5 Defense. Radiant or Survivor armor is probably best, but you can't go wrong with Sentinel if you're using 13 Strength. If you stick to using unique items and shop around, you should be able to find a set of swords for less than 10k.

ok, let me rephrase that. It worked well as a tank for most of the game.
And I don't think it's a good build, but it gets the job done. Nor do I think it's good because Ibeat proph with it. It simply works.

Ogion,
The Ascalon Razor of Charrslaying that you are using... is it 15-22 dmg? If not, you're running with less than max damage.
I've been feeling generous here lately, call me a reformed Grentch if you will, so PM me in game, and I'll see what I can do about helping you set up some decent gear so that you aren't getting faceplanted for a dirt nap every time you go out to do something.
First and foremost, don't worry about buying things. As you play through the quests and missions (the first time through might be frustrating, but beating them gives a nice sense of accomplishment) you will get more than enough drops to grab you crafting mats and sell here and there to get some cash, as well as finding better weapons/shields to use. The fastest way to earn money in Guild Wars is to not get caught up in the hype of buying random crap. That will kill your bankroll.
Again, PM me in game, I'll see what I can do to help you out a bit with some good gear. It won't be fancy, it won't be rare, but it will be max damage/defense and should serve you well.
Regards,
Nihilist

Thanks for all the responses, I will keep all the stuff mentioned here in mind and refer to this thread from time to time while leveling to 20.
@Tyrael_Eveningsong Thanks for the offer to help in-game! I have added you as friend My sword has 10-15 dmg , +20% against Charr, +20% customisation and 33% bleeding duration bonus. Shield has 16 armor and +30 health.

Got a chance to meet and talk to Nihilist in-game yesterday and it was surprising how much stuff one can learn in a small conversation with an experienced player So many questions had propped up in my mind over the course of past 1 month or so, and almost all of them got answered yesterday, huge thanks goes to Nihilist for taking time and giving me solid advice about the Warrior profession and GW in general
Also got an AWESOME sword and also really cool stats on my armour through runes for no cost from him, I am starting to feel rock solid now to do my future quests and missions
I hope to try and be able to help other beginner players some time (far) in the future in the same way. The only complaint against Nihilist was that I was made to go almost nude not once but twice while checking my armour stats, lol j/k

Almost, being the key statement there. You still had your crop top and shorts on! :P
My pleasure to help, ogion. You'll be able to help other players at some point in time. For now, enjoy playing, and don't forget to upgrade that Vigor rune when you get the chance, and replace the Survivor insignia on your Gloves with a Stonefist insignia once you start using Knockdown!
In fact, let me know once you get your 80AL armor. I'll provide you with the 2 Perfect Salvage Kits you'll need to pull the runes and insignias off without destroying the armor and possibly losing any unsalvaged runes/insignias. That way you'll get the most out of it!
